Feast of St. Francis Xavier

St. Francis Xav

St. Francis Xavier

There are two saints who are patrons of the Missions.  St. Therese, the Little Flower, and St. Francis Xavier.  Together they represent the ways in which any of us can participate in the missionary activity of the Church.  Therese never left her own country but her heart and soul encompassed the whole world.  Francis traveled far to distant, unknown cultures for his missionary work.  He understood the value in being called out of what is familiar to find the ways God is acting in other cultures.  He recognized that everyone he encountered taught him something of how God was calling him to grow.

What great witnesses we have in these two.  Each of us is also called to see how God can work in and through us to spread the Good News!
