Development Committee meets in Cape Coast

From Sister Kathy Schmittgens, development director in the US for the Province of Africa

Our Lady of Peace Convent is the setting for the annual meeting of the Development Committee of the Province of Africa.  The committee consists of six members  and a facilitator.  In these seven sisters we represent six different countries.  What a rich experience it is! The committee member are taking a long hard look at how to ensure that the mission continues into the future.  Dependence on the West will necessarily need to decrease.  How can the province be good stewards of  the resources they have and how can they develop new support for the future? Discussions are lively but productive.  We are so blessed with intelligent, perceptive sisters! Today we were privileged to have time with Sister Theresa Kusi, OLA who is the new development Director for her community, The Sister of Our Lady of the Apostles.  She gave her expertise on the process involved in grant writing.  It was a very good session where we were able to get many questions answered

  1. I just want to thank all who participated and are so committed to this concern. Your choice of speakers seems very fine and the topic she presented. I do believe grant writing and gaining more knowledge of how to gain and retain donors will enable us to choose to respond to the most urgent needs while partnering with others for the mission. I believe this is “being about the mission” and there are people who desire to be part of creating a better world and to help those in need. This approach, for me, responds far more appropriately to our charism and the recent call of Pope Francis to move to the margins and live out our prophetic mission….God’s mission….with radical trust than to dwell on “income generating projects”. Thank you all and God bless you.
