School Sisters of Notre Dame – Africa

Transforming the World through Education

Blog

Greetings!  My name is Sister Kathy Schmittgens, SSND.  I am currently the Development Director for the School Sisters of Notre Dame, Province of Africa.  I hope to use this blog as another way to share the good work of our sisters working in Africa.  We are in five countries – The Gambia, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Nigeria, and Kenya.  I will also share some of my own experiences having worked in Sierra Leone just before and during the early parts of the civil war.  I returned to Sierra Leone in November and December of 2011.  It was interesting to see what changed and what stayed the same in the intervening years.

  1. I would like to send a shout out to the School Sisters of Notre Dame in the African Province. Today is the 3rd Anniversary of the beginning of their province. It is an alive and growing province and I would just like to say happy anniversary, many blessings today and into the future. May the spirit of St. Augustine energize and enliven the ministry, the work and the lives of all who call themselves School Sisters of Notre Dame and who serve the people of Africa!
